About Nancy Dean

 
 

Nancy Dean's academic focus was the teaching of Chaucer and Medieval Studies as a full professor at Hunter College of the City University of New York, where she also taught Composition, Creative Writing, and Women's Studies.

Now retired, she is the author of articles on Chaucer, published in Hunter Studies, Comparative Literature, and Medium Aevum.  Dean is a poet and a playwright and has published short stories in Room with a View and IKON, and co-edited with Myra Stark an anthology of contemporary feminist short stories called "In the Looking Glass," and co-edited with M. G. Soares "Intimate Acts: Eight Contemporary Lesbian Plays."  Dean recently finished her third novel, "Song in three Voices."

Criseyde - A New Opera by Alice Shields

Nancy Dean, a Vassar BA with Honors and a Masters from Harvard, received her PhD from New York University in Medieval Studies, with a specialization in Chaucer's Use of Ovid in his Early Works.  She is a member of the Dramatists Guild, Supporting Players, and Times Square Playwrights.
